Life at the University

We at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, wish a good start, good luck for your work in science, teaching and research at the university and to have a good time in the City of Hall.

Before your stay, you should apply for your personal ID card, so you can take advantage of all that our services provide.

University Library (ULB)

The State and University Library (ULB) is the largest academic library in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. More than 5.55 million copies have been distributed to the 20 branch libraries, which are housed in the buildings of the respective institutes and faculties.

Everyone has the opportunity to use the library. To use the ULB you are required to sign in, and you should submit the following form filled out at the ULB:

To enroll in the library following additional documents are important:

• Passport
• Registration certificate from the registry office
• If necessary. Employment
• If necessary. Personal ID card
If you have neither a contract nor a registration certificate, you also have the opportunity to receive a guest card, which entitles you to borrow in the reading rooms.

Dining Halls

Everyone is allowed to use the food and services of the dining halls.

The workshop provides students in the cafeterias in Halle, Bernburg, Dessau, and Merseburg Köthen, rich, healthy and good value meals from breakfast to supper. Especially central are the "Harz-Mensa" (Harz 42-44) and the "Tulpe", which is located on the university square.

IT-Service Center (ITZ)

The IT-Service Center provides services to all students, staff and guests of the university.

To use the Internet at the University of Halle and to obtain a login with e-mail address, please contact the ITZ to register.

For a motion-based compensation for the scientific life in laboratories, classrooms and offices, the University Sports Centre offers an attractive sports and exercise program. Sports enthusiasts can choose between different sports. From Aikido to Zumba ® with confidence we believe, there is something for everyone.

All the necessary information to participate in the different courses to course fees and dates can be found on the University Sports site, or in the office.
