Admission information

1. What is uni-assist e.V.?

UNI-ASSIST e.V. stands for “Arbeits- und Servicestelle für internationale Studienberwerbungen e.V.” which means “Office for Foreign/International Applications”.  Beginning in the 2005/2006 semester, this office will process all applications from foreign students.

2. Who has to apply for admission to MLU through uni-assist?

Anyone, who did not receive their Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (certificate of general qualification for university entrance) in Germany or from a school with German examination rules (Abiturprüfungsordung), must apply through uni-assist e.V.  Examples of Hochschulzugangsberechtigung are Matura, A-Levels, High school diploma, Baccalaureate, BA degree, Attestat, etc.

3. Who does NOT have to apply through uni-assist e.V.?

  • All citizens of the EU (European Union), Liechtenstein or Norway, who want to take courses in subjects with nationwide restricted admission (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy). Please send applications to Zentralstelle zur Vergabe von Studienplätzen (Central Placement Office), D-44128 Dortmund
  • Anyone who got their Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (certificate of general qualification for university entrance) in Germany or at a school with German examination rules (Abiturprüfungsordnung).
  • Anyone applying for one of the following postgraduate or exchange programmes at Martin Luther University:
  • Biomedical Engineering (postgraduate studies M.Sc.)
  • Law (Rechtswissenschaften) (postgraduate studies LL.M)
  • Business Law and Economic Law  (supplementary studies LL.M oec / MBL)
  • Applicants for the ERASMUS Programme
  • Anyone wishing to apply for a PhD project.
  • Anyone, who has already graduated from a German college or university, and would like to apply using their corresponding graduation diploma or certificate of completion.

5. When are the deadlines for applying to uni-assist e.V.?

  • Deadline for applying for the winter semester: May 31st
  • Deadline for applying for the summer semester:     November 30th
  • Deadline for the international bachelor programme "Business and Economics":             May 15th
  • All applications must be received before these dates.  Otherwise, we will not be able to process your application and you will have to reapply the following semester.
  • It is highly recommended that you send in your application 2 weeks before the deadline. This way, you have time to respond if there are any further questions or if we need any additional documents from you.

6. How do you apply to uni-assist e.V.?

  • Complete and sign the Application for Admission for Foreign Student Applicants (Antrag auf Zulassung für auländische Studienbewerber).
  • If you are applying to multiple uni-assist e.V. universities, please send for each university a separate application form.
  • Please send the entire form, completed and signed. Uni-assist e.V. needs those documents only once, no matter how many uni-assist e.V. universities you are applying to.
  • Please pay the application fee on the same day as you send in your application.
  • We suggest to use the online application via uni-assist e.V. website

7. A complete application includes:

  • Your school certificate (for example: high school diploma) from your home country, which states that you have finished school and which proves your qualification for university entrance.  (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung)
  • If you have already been a student, your certificates, diplomas, report cards or transcripts from your previous universities.
  • Certificate of German language proficiency
    For acceptance to the prerequisite courses (Studienkolleg):
  • at least 200 hours of German (Beginning Level 3, Z-German) (Grundstufe III, Z-Deutsch)
    For admission to the DSH test at MLU:
  • at least 800 hours of German (Intermediate Level 2 or Advanced Level) (Mittelstufe II oder Oberstufe)
    For direct admission, you need one of the following:
  • DSH test
  • DaF test (German as a Foreign Language test) certificate with at least Level 4 in each section
  • “Main Advanced Level Test” from the Goethe Institute (Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung des Goethe-Instituts)
  • “Minor” or “Major” language diploma from the Goethe Institute (Kleines oder Großes Sprachdiplom des Goethe-Instituts)
  • German language diploma from the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs – Level 2 (“Deutches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz – 2. Stufe”)
  • ASSIST needs your application documents to be official, notarized copies.  In addition, all documents need to be translated into German (with the exception of English and French documents).  These translations must also be notarized.  Please do not send original documents.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.

8. How much is the application fee?

  • An application to uni-assist e.V. costs 55€ for the first university and 15€ for each additional uni-assist e.V. university.
  • For applicants from EU countries the cost is 30€
  • For applicants from China, who have already gone through the examination procedure in the official testing office (Amtlichen Prüfstelle – APS) in Peking, the cost is 20€ for the first university and 10€ for each additional uni-assist e.V. university.

9. How can you pay the application fee?

  • Through direct-debit authorization from a German bank account.  You can find the bank, direct-debit authorization form on the uni-assist e.V. website. Please fill in the form, sign it and include it with your application.
  • By credit card (Visa or Mastercard)
  • By a credit transfer to:

    Under Verwendungszweck (intended purpose), please give your last name (family name, surname), first name, date of birth and country of origin.
  • Please note: the entire application fee must be received by uni-assist e.V. This does not include any applicable transfer fees from your bank.

10. What happens after you send in your application?

  • If you fulfil the requirements on paper, uni-assist e.V. will forward your application to our university.  Then you will receive either notification of admission or rejection, from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, with further information.
  • If you do not fulfil the requirements on paper, uni-assist e.V. will notify you. Unfortunately, your documents cannot be returned from uni-assist e.V. You will have to apply for the next semester with new documents.
