Martin Luther University presents yearbook and promotional film

Information in German and English / Positive reception for first edition

Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), has found two new ways of raising its profile: for the second time, the University is publishing a comprehensive yearbook with high production values. Its first attempt went straight to sixth place in a comparison of German university yearbooks. Also new to the MLU`s portfolio is a promotional film lasting about 15 minutes. Both the yearbook and the film provide information in German and English.

"Martin Luther  University, Halle-Wittenberg, has a lot going for it. It is becoming increasingly important to find an appropriate way of communicating that to others," says Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Wulf Diepenbrock. "We attracted attention with our 2006 Yearbook, and have now improved it even further. The film provides anyone new to our University with a useful first impression of it."

The 2007 MLU Yearbook reports on important events at the University over the year in 180 pages of words and pictures, with text in German and English. It contains a chronicle of events, as well as news articles on topics from important fields including study and teaching, research, internationalisation and networks. At its first attempt, its predecessor reached sixth place in the league table of annual reports from German universities; it was published by JP | KOM, one of the leading German business communications agencies. To quote from the study, "The top-ranked annual reports are highly readable throughout and cleanly composed in technical terms. What remains uncertain is whether a traditional university also requires a very traditional, possibly outmoded print space (University of Heidelberg), or whether even established universities can take a bold approach and follow modern directions (University of Bonn, University of Halle-Wittenberg)."

Now the yearbook has been expanded even further, also as far as its alumni are concerned. All students who graduated from the MLU in 2007 have been mentioned by name. The yearbook was edited by the Public Relations Department of the MLU, and designed by the Halle company konzeptundform Gesellschaft für Unternehmens- und Wissenschaftskommunikation mbH.

The new promotional film from Martin Luther University offers an entertaining 15 minute excursion through the fields of research and study at the University, as well as providing an introduction to cultural and leisure activities in the city of Halle. The film was produced by the media and communications department of the MLU led by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Lampe and Manja Rothe. The DVD provides the option of a German or English commentary.

The 2007 Yearbook and the film will be presented for the first time at the University`s New Year reception on Friday, 11 January 2008 (invited guests only). The MLU will use both new ventures to inform its cooperation partners in the fields of science, business and politics, as well as its friends and sponsors, prospective students, trade fair visitors and other interested parties, about the latest developments at the largest university in Saxony-Anhalt.
