Visa and entry
Since 01 June 2022, the new regulation amending the Coronavirus Entry Regulation is valid. On 1 June, the obligation to provide proof - vaccinated, recovered or tested negative - when entering Germany ended. Persons entering from a virus variant area are exempt. Currently (as of 24.11.2022), however, no country is classified as a virus variant area. Here you can find the current information for travelers from the Federal Ministry of Health.

Travellers who have stayed in a virus-variant area in the last 10 days must register at www.einreiseanmeldung.de before arriving in Germany and carry proof of registration with them on entry. They are also required to have proof of testing upon entry based on nucleic acid detection testing (PCR, PoC-NAT or other methods of nucleic acid amplification technology) and to go into domestic quarantine. Corona tests and Quarantine
Based on the information on entry and quarantine provided by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany we have compiled the most important questions and answers for you below:
Lifting of all COVID 19 entry restrictions to Germany
As of Saturday, 11 June 2022, all COVID 19 entry restrictions to Germany will be lifted temporarily. From this date, entry into Germany will again be permitted for all travel purposes (including tourism and visiting trips). However, persons residing in the People's Republic of China still need an important reason to enter Germany (due to reciprocity). For entry into Germany, proof of vaccination, proof of convalescence or proof of testing is no longer required.
For virus variant areas (currently (as of 22.11.2022) no states are designated as virus variant areas) further entry restrictions would apply.
Regulations for entry from virus variant areas
Countries in which virus mutations are widespread are classified by the Federal Government as so-called virus variant areas. The list of current virus variant areas is published on the website of the Robert-Koch-Institute (RKI). Special requirements apply to travellers who have stayed in such an area within 10 days before entering Germany. Details can be found below.
Transport bans from virus variant areas
For countries where virus mutations are widespread (so-called virus variant areas), there is a transport ban. Transport companies, e.g. airlines or railway companies, are not allowed to transport persons from these countries to Germany. Transport is only possible in very limited exceptional cases.

Digital entry registration
Travellers who have stayed in a virus-variant area in the last 10 days must register at https://einreiseanmeldung.de before arriving in Germany and carry proof of registration with them on entry. If, in exceptional cases, it is not possible to make a digital entry registration, travellers must instead fill out a substitute notification in paper form, which can be found here.
Obligation to test and provide proof when entering from a virus variant area
Travellers aged 12 and over who have been in a virus variant area in the last 10 days are required to have PCR test evidence. An antigen test or proof of recovery or vaccination is not sufficient. In principle, the test must not be older than 48 hours at the (planned) time of entry.
Quarantine for persons entering Germany from areas with variant viruses
In Germany, there is a quarantine obligation according to the Coronavirus Entry Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health. According to the new entry regulation, when entering Germany with a previous stay in a virus variant area within the last 10 days, the obligation is to:
- go to their destination immediately after entering Germany and
- seclude themselves there for 14 days (quarantine).
During this quarantine, it is not permitted to leave the house or flat or to receive visitors.

Concrete steps in Halle:
Having entered Germany from a risk area, must I contact the public health office in Halle?
No, this is not required. Only the completion of the digital entry registration together with the transmission of appropriate proofs (proof of recovery, full vaccination or negative Coronatest) is necessary.

Situation in Saxony-Anhalt
Here you can read up on the corona regulations in the individual federal states, including Saxony-Anhalt (in German only).
On 01.10.2022, the 18th SARS-CoV-2 Containment Ordinance took effect in Saxony-Anhalt. With the new containment ordinance, Saxony-Anhalt implements the low-threshold protective measures permitted under the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) of the federal government. It is currently valid until 29.10.2022 and includes extensive relaxations: For example, all 2G/3G regulations as well as the general obligation to wear a mask indoors (such as shops and restaurants outside one's own seating area) will be dropped. The regulations include the obligation to wear medical mouth-nose protection in certain areas such as doctors' surgeries, hospitals and public transport.

Testing possibilities in Halle
Here you find an overview of all testing options in Halle. Also listed are physicians in private practice who perform tests and pharmacies that offer free rapid tests. You will find also information sheets on what to do if you receive a positive or a negative corona test result.
What are the consequences of a positive test result in Halle?
- Once you have the test result, please email it immediately to corona@halle.de. You will then be informed by the public health office (Gesundheitsamt) in Halle, until when you have to stay in quarantine.
- Furthermore, infected persons are obliged to inform their contact persons immediately and to name them to the Department of Health. The city of Halle (Saale) has provided an online form for this purpose. The form is available in English and German.
- For isolation and quarantine applies:
Isolation (for infected persons) and quarantine (for contact persons, recommendation of the Federal Government) usually end after 5 days. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) urgently recommends repeat testing after the fifth day. Only if the test is negative should isolation be ended. Self-tests and rapid antigen tests are sufficient for testing.

Corona vaccinations

The vaccination campaign is mainly being carried out by general practitioners. For patients who do not have a family doctor, the website of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Saxony-Anhalt offers a list of all vaccination practices in the counties. You can find this here .
A third option to get a COVID-19 vaccination is at the university's medical service (“Betriebsärztlicher Dienst”). However, the latter one applies only for employees of Halle University and not for scholarship holders.
