The Collegium Musicum

Within university life there are also a lot of cultural offers. Apart from the numerous activities at the Sports Centre there is e.g. a university choir,  a university orchestra,  a students’ theatre as well  as the Uni-Big Band.
The university choir “Johann-Friedrich-Reichardt” is well known in Halle and mainly has classical pieces of music in its repertoire. It regularly participates in the annual Händel-festival  in Halle. It is conducted by Jens Lorenz.  Rehearsals are every Wednesday at the Händel-Karree in Kleine Marktstr. 7. To be admitted you will have to pass a singing test. The  date will be announced at the beginning of each semester at various locations of the university,  e.g. at the Löwengebäude.

The Akademische Orchester of the university also has a good reputation in Halle and is conducted by Matthias Erben. For being admitted you also have to pass a test. Rehearsals are on Mondays, also at the Händel-Karree.  The Studententheater (drama) also invites you to join in. If interested please call Frau  Siegmund-Schultze, tel.. 5507300.
Every student knows the hot Uni-Big Band. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at the Händel-Karree, too. The band is conducted by Hartmut Reszel.

University Sports Centre

The Sports Centre offers a great choice of activities from popular sports such as swimming, aerobics or football to quite unusual ones such as archery, salsa, tai-chi-quan, gliding or juggling. Every year, during the semester holidays as well, comprehensive courses such as gliding, climbing or skiing holidays are offered which are always very popular (please enrol early!). The brochure containing the entire range is available at the Sports Centre and at many other locations  throughout the university at the beginning of each semester.
Some courses are free of charge, for others you will have to pay a small enrolment fee which is often between  5-20 € per semester.  Every semester a sports festival is organized by the Sports Centre in which all students may participate. On this day there are no lectures/academic events at  the entire university.

The cultural activities of the International Office

cultural activities

cultural activities

The International Office organizes events for foreigners and Germans to get to know each other and to support intercultural relationship. All the activities are published  in the Kulturkalender (cultural calendar) as well as on the website of the AAA every semester.  If you want to know what else  is going on just pop in  at the AAA and for further details.

Internationaler Stammtisch (international regulars’ meeting)

The “internationale Stammtisch” is an initiative of the tutors of AAA..  Every Wednesday (apart from the free period) we go down to the pub which is stated in the Kulturkalender.

Excursions

Each semester several  excursions out into the country are organized by the tutors. 20-30 students can participate in each  excursion. The planned excursions take one or  two days each, the personal contribution is about  10 to  50 €. You will find the dates of the excursions on the homepage of the Akademische Auslandsamt or in the Kulturkalender. In order to  participate you will have to enrol at the Auslandsamt in time. The fee is to be paid when enrolling. In the recent semesters, for example, we went to Berlin, Potsdam,  Dresden, Weimar, Erfurt, Quedlinburg,  Eisenach and Wittenberg. It has always been good fun and it is quite a chance for you to meet other people and to see other regions.
