Core Research Areas

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg has identified four core areas of research.

The core research foci of MLU are conform to the research areas of the region and the state Saxony Anhalt, which is also demonstrated by the close interaction with the non-university research institutions in Halle and the surrounding area as well as with the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

MLU Internally

Doctoral candidates and scientists from our partner universities can receive financial support for a short stay at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The corresponding application must be submitted by a professor from MLU. If you are interested, please contact your colleagues in Halle.

The Erasmus+ programme promotes cooperation between universities in Europe through the mobility of students, doctoral candidates, teachers and staff. If you are from an Erasmus partner university of the Martin Luther University and would like to come to the MLU under the Staff Mobility Program, please contact the International Office at the university in your home country.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

For more than 150 years, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) has been sponsoring research visits to Germany by academics from abroad. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's various programmes for postdocs, junior research group leaders, experienced researchers and internationally renowned scientists and scholars can be found here    .

German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports foreign scientists and scholars working at universities or research institutions who wish to carry out a research project at a state or state-recognized German university or non-university research institution. More    

Furthermore, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports the stay of foreign guest lecturers at German universities. More    

German-American Fulbright Commission

The German-American Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Germany) facilitates  cross-border international understanding through academic exchange. Find out more about the programmes of Fulbright Germany here.   

Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft

The German Research Foundation (DFG) supports cooperation with foreign partners in its funding process with a variety of instruments. Generally speaking, in all forms of project funding, the necessary resources for an international cooperation can always be applied for too. Cooperation projects with foreign partners will in general be supported considering the principle of mutual responsibility: scientists working in Germany need to contact the DFG, their overseas partners, on the other hand, respective funding institutions in their own country. This is particularly applicable to institutions with which the DFG has negotiated an agreement for the joint promotion of scientific cooperation. More

In addition to information for scientists who would  like to come to Germany and for researchers who would like to go abroad,  on the EURAXESS information portal you shall also find information for  researchers who would like to return to Germany after an extended  research stay in another country.
