English language consultation

Many international doctoral candidates write their dissertation in English. However, English is not necessarily your mother tongue. This may mean an additional challenge on top of your scientific research. The PhD Network will again be offering an English language consultation with an English native speaker this semester.

Using excerpts  of your work, our consultant will point out frequent linguistic errors and make  suggestions for a better style of writing.

The consultations will take place from April to July 2018 in the rooms of the International Office twice per month from 3 pm till 5.30 pm.

Last date in Summer Semester 2018: 17.07.

To reserve a slot,  please send an email to and  indicate your preferred consultation day and time(s). You are asked to submit an  excerpt of 4-5 pages of the work you would like to have checked, 1 week before  the consultation. If you have any specific questions, we can also pass those on  to the consultant.

Call for proposals: Grants for foreign female students at the final stage of their PhD

Call for proposals: Grants for foreign female students at the final stage of their PhD

The Prorectorate for Structure and Strategic Development awards grants for female PhD students of the Martin-Luther-University, starting 1st October 2018. Financial support is only possible for foreign female students for up to 6 months; an extension for up to additional 6 months can be possible in serious cases of hardship.

At the time of application, candidates are required to be at the final stage of their PhD and they must be enrolled as students at the Martin-Luther-University. Their stay must be temporary for the purpose of their PhD studies, with existential insecurity towards the final stage of their PhD (for example because of a contract or grant expiring). Also, it is required that the candidate performed well and the completion of the PhD thesis is realistic within the period of support. A supporting statement of the PhD advisor must be included in the application.

The deadline for applications is 22th June 2018, and applications should be made to:

Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg
