German Language Courses

Did you know that German is native language for more than 90 million individuals and a foreign language spoken by another 80 million? German is the most widely used official language of the European Union and among the world's ten most popular languages. Science, literature, philosophy, theology, history, the arts in general have been influenced by German-speaking icons. Think of the works of Goethe, Kafka or Luther. Immerse yourself into the language and experience movies, radio programmes, newspapers and magazines.

We invite you to learn German in one of our courses. Learning German you will join a big community rich in several hundred years of culture and traditions. Whether it is mastering your daily life more easily, making new friends or exploring culture, take one of our German courses.

In the winter term 2017/18, the PhD Network once again offers German language courses for international PhD students, postdocs and their partners. All classes are run by experienced teachers and take place twice a week in the evening. Information about time, venue and the content of the course levels can be found in the text boxes and course descriptions below.

If you are interested in participating in one of our German language courses, we kindly ask you to download and fill out a registration form in German or English (green box on the right side under "Documents"). We'd also like to ask you to do the German Placement Test by Cornelsen    (not necessary for the A1 course) and take a screenshot of the result. Then submit the registration form and the German test result by email, postal service, fax, or hand both in personally. We charge a contribution fee of 80 € per person and semester, which is to be paid in advance by money transfer to the following account:
