Working together for success! Peer mentoring (Workshop) on the 24th of October 2019

Peer Mentoring is the regular exchange about professional challenges with colleagues. Especially in the competitive environment of everyday scientific life, collegial exchange is an important space for reflection. Peer mentoring can be an important success factor in the professional development of one's own professional role(s). The aim of the workshop is to enable the participants to advise each other  independently and solution-oriented on typical challenges of their everyday lives (e.g. doctorate, teaching, research). In addition, fixed groups are to be established that can meet in the future in a self-organised way for peer mentoring.

The workshop will be held in English language and is free of charge. The places in this workshop are limited and are assigned after the First-come-first-serve principle.

Further details about the workshop and the link for registration can be found here.

English language consultation

Many international doctoral candidates write their dissertation in English. However, English is not necessarily your mother tongue. This may mean an additional challenge on top of your scientific research. The PhD Network will again be offering an English language consultation with an English native speaker this semester.

Using excerpts  of your work, our consultant will point out frequent linguistic errors and make  suggestions for a better style of writing.

The consultations will take place from April to July 2018 in the rooms of the International Office twice per month from 3 pm till 5.30 pm.

Last date in Summer Semester 2018: 17.07.

To reserve a slot,  please send an email to and  indicate your preferred consultation day and time(s). You are asked to submit an  excerpt of 4-5 pages of the work you would like to have checked, 1 week before  the consultation. If you have any specific questions, we can also pass those on  to the consultant.

We are happy to announce our next excursion: On Saturday, the 26th of October 2019, we will explore the green city of Weimar, famous for its famous poets Goethe and Schiller, which has a new attraction since April this year: the Bauhaus Museum. After arriving in Weimar, we walk into the center and pass the "Quartier Weimarer Moderne" on the way. You have time to get a first impression of the city. After a warm lunch in a restaurant, an English-language city tour through Weimar`s city centre follows. We will pass well-known places such as Goethe`s residence and the German National Theatre.

After the tour there is still time to explore Goethe`s garden house in the beautiful park at the Ilm, the Bauhaus Museum or other sights of Weimar on your own.
